Follow Me

The silvery blue rectangle, cool amidst the shadow-black and liquid-gold. The only one of its kind. Daring to stand alone. Glowing with its own internal light. The different one.
Was that what drew me to this image? That celebration of uniqueness? The subtle flouting of the rules by being blue instead of gold?
I took this photograph because of that single blue rectangle. It was the variation within the pattern; it was the reason I stopped short and pressed the shutter button. It was distinctive – its icy blue set off by the surrounding heat. A lesson in the beauty of different.
When I noticed it shining at my feet, I looked around for the source. But it was a mystery – I was unable to determine the cause. It just was – there in all its “blue rectangle-ness” – shining forth, demanding that I look.
And somehow, that simple blue rectangle of light - defined by shadows, surrounded by a crowd of gold – quietly spoke to me about being true to myself. About being brave enough to embrace what makes me unique, to step into my “blueness”, even when everyone else chooses gold.
Have you found your color?

The beauty of being different — wonderful post to start my morning with, Brenda! Love your image with the strong diagonal lines and shiny metallic colors. As I age, I am getting more and more comfortable with being different, becoming more “me” , and appreciating the uniqueness of others. Perfect selection for PHC!

How interesting that you found a blue rectangle apparently without a reason…Love the words that you extracted from this shot.

Have I found my color? Hmmmm. Didn’t know I was looking for one. I’ll get back to you on that. I like what you saw though-and it say Brenda all over it.
Hoping your trip was super-duper fantastic. Have been thinking of you.

That’s so cool…and such a surprise that that particular square was colored and lit differently. Great eye for seeing and capturing it!

Brenda, I hope you never lose that beautiful blue you-ness! I’d like to echo what Juli said above. Your work is stunning and I absolutely love it. As for me, my color is “quiet.” It took a long time for me to embrace it, and I still sometimes wonder if it would be better to be different. But I’m not, and I don’t struggle against it much anymore. Most of the time I’m very happy being me – a quiet blue square of my own.
